KMCC vs Thornton Watlass C.C.

KMCC burn bright until rain snuffs out victory hopes

The first cup match of the season saw Kirkby drawn? away to Thornton Watlass and an experience for their newly arrived aussie. The techniques of village green cricket somewhat different to the hard bouncy tracks of sundrenched Perth. Tufnell too was welcomed back into the fold and after losing the toss once again KMCC found themselves in the field. Thorntons innings never really got going despite the usual outrageous "homer" umpiring decision that saw a run out not given in comical style. Tufnell whittled away at their batting with 6 wickets and the Watlass innings closed at the eminently gettable 82-7.

Cat and CH-C opened however the vision of the pub within the boundary quickly drew Cat into a rash shot allowing the ebullient Brad to enter the fray and display the long handle approach that so suits this style of cricket - a quickfire fifty and some massive sixes saw KMCC hope with 8 wickets and 8 overs to spare. Is this Kirkby's year in a cup they have never won - certainly a confident start at any rate.
