Shedley vs Shedley
This match was billed as a direct contest between the Shedley brothers but unfortunately for the amassed crowd it did not turn out to be the case. KMCC lost the toss, were inserted on what looked to be a good batting surface and promptly lost two early wickets to find themselves in some trouble at 15-2. Iain(68) and Charles(59) put on over one hundred for the third wicket and steadily edged the game into Kirkby's favour without ever taking full control. There then followed a period of sporadic hitting, captain Shedley making a quick 18 before being run out in comic fashion. KMCC finished up on the reasonable total of 185-6.
The game was effectively wrapped up by the drinks break as Duncan and Peter had removed the top order and Studley had crumbled to 64-6. It was at this point that the game turned into pure farce. The slow over rate earlier in the day had led to a late tea interval and by the time the second innings had started it was well past 5pm. Consequently as dusk and latterly night fell visibility dropped from poor to zero. Duncan finished his lengthy spell with final figures of 5-36 and a severe case of sweating gonads. The unfortunate Fraser had to leave the field, with the gait of John Wayne after a long ride over the prairies, for an emergency application of Johnsons baby talc to the severely chaffed groin region which enabled a speedy return to the action. By this time outfielders were being told in which direction to run in order to retrieve the ball and Shedley had called upon the big cheese mainly in the interests of player safety. The bowling change worked brilliantly as he grabbed three quick wickets to secure the bowling point with 2 overs remaining. Galphay awaits.....
