KMCC record first win in 1999 !!
A belligerent innings of 63 from Duncan Fraser, given sensible support by Paul Goldsmith (15) helped Kirkby rise from the unpromising position of 127-7 to a final score of 199-9 at the end of 45 overs at the KMCG.
Earlier contributions from opener Duane Atkinson (19) and middle order batsmen Iain Fraser (20), Mark Fettes (27) and James Marston (18) helped towards this total.
D Fraser smashed 4 sixes clean out of the KMCG but the champagne moment of the innings was a straight driven six by Captain Marston !!
Ripley in reply made a fast start and were allows up with the run rate. However following the introduction of Steven Buckon they began to lose wickets at regular intervals and at 100-5 the game looked safe for the home team. The Ripley batsmen though refused to lie down and they continued to attack. This refreshing approach almost paid off and they still had 5 overs left when they lost their last wicket with the score on 170. D Fraser capped a fine all round match by claiming the all important final wicket.
With both Kirkby Malzeard pubs (temporarily ??) shut, the team celebrated long into the night at the Crown Inn, Grewelthorpe.
