Nattress smites Raskelf
Yet another cold day dawned to see the arrival of Raskelf CC to the KMCG for the first time in their history. Many great lights have failed in the daunting shadow of the monolithic KMCG pavilion and so it proved for the newcomers to the division. Their cause was not aided by the dismissal of their opener from the third ball of the match by a patched up and firing Fraser. However, despite parsimonious figures from Fraser 3-23 and Armer 1-26, Raskelf were able to achieve a total to defend due to the application of their middle order however 171-5 at tea seemed 30 runs short given the pace of the outfield.
The KMCC innings started positively enough but the loss of Harford-Cross and Fielder left the match in the balance at 62-2. Nattress at the other end though was in fine form and held his nerve against the opening attack to cash in on the change bowlers. With Iain Fraser still acclimatising to his bionic eyes and stratching around with his now illegal bat, Kiffer decided to make hay and despatched the bowling to all parts of the ground especially working the on-side with a series of pulls and on drives. For some reason Raskelf were not inclined to protect the boundary looking for the wickets that could turn the game in their favour and Kiffer raced past fifty and then brought up his second century in Kirkby colours and first at the KMCG in very quick time. While Fraser watched on at the other end in quiet contentment at not being out Kiffer pummelled the remaining runs required for victory finishing on an unbeaten 112. A marvellous effort by the on form opener... next instalment Darley away.
