KMCC fail to shine on first day of season
KMCC arrived at a waterlogged PBCG full of enthusiasm with a full squad and a brand new Aussie for the start of the new season. Bradley won the toss and on a wave of euphoria Duncan and Peter K ripped out the openers without a run being scored. Pateley's Aussie however oozed class and mastering difficult conditions started to take the game away from the Kirkby attack. Miker Armer was brought into the attack and snuffed out the antipodean challenge pinning him LBW. When Rod dived to his left to remove the third Pateley batsman for 0 and the score 62-4 all looked rosy once again. There then followed a series of simple catches spurned and the Pateley fifth wicket cashed in to devastating effect. By tea the score had been plastered to the stratospheric level of 234-6.
Openers Kiffer,37 and Harford-Cross,36 gave the innings a solid start and for a while it looked as if a successful run chase might be possible. Duncan struck a few lusty blows and after a period of culture shock arising from batting in a bog Aussie Ken started to show that he has the class to bloody a few noses in the league this year. The run rate kept climbing and when Ken and Brad had gone a chase for the point was all that could be hoped for. Even this ended in farce as the wickets tumbled and then just as it seemed like Peter K and Mike would see KMCC home the Pateley attack stopped the runs more wickets fell and 2 balls from the end Mike was run out to see the KMCC challenge snuffed out at 155 all out. Next week at Burton will need a clear improvement if this is not to be a season of perpetual struggle...
