KMCC vs Pannal C.C.

KMCC tested to the max on day one

KMCC started their division one campaign by travelling to Pannal CC. This looked likely to be a stern test since Pannal CC are one of a handful of teams with pretensions of raising the Championship pennant alongside their claret and gold ensign come September. On winning the toss the Pannal skipper swiftly inserted a KMCC line up missing the experience of the skipper, with double vision, and the Fraser twins, unaware that the season started on 22 April. The season started as last season finished with a six but from then on the Pannal bowlers choked the KMCC innings as wickets fell regularly and then when reasonably placed at 63-3 the innings crumbled to 75-8 at the fins of Fish (5-13). Points will prove vital if KMCC are to preserve their division one status and with this in mind Skipper, Armer and the normally counterattacking Kirk ground out the last 15 overs to save a point and thus prevented Tufnell receiveing his first taste of Division one attacks. 97-8 at tea.

Whilst 97 was never going to be a competitive total the KMCC bowlers and fielders stuck to their task admirably. Kirk struck twice in two balls, Goldsmith the following over and when Blackburn grabbed his first wicket of the season Pannal were beginning to feel a little queezy at 46-4. However, Thompson,62no, held his nerve to guide a jittery Pannal home - the only player to eake more than 15 runs on a day for the bowlers. For Pannal dreams of the title remain unabated but for KMCC a taste of struggles to come along with a point which may prove invaluble when Old Father Time removes the bails for the last time in season 2006. Brad will require tunnel vision to keep KMCC on the straight and narrow and one assumes that he will brief his opthalmologist accordingly to assist in this cause.
