KMCC propelled to the second round by Dujon and Rod
A match that seemed doomed to abandonment started half an hour late on the greenest of green tops after a new strip was hastily cut on the outfield to avoid standing water on the square. Needless to say KM lost the toss and were inserted but once again got off to a reasonable start with the Cat and CH-C putting on 44 in the first ten overs. Cat then departed before an unsportsmanlike outburst from the frustrated Ouseburn bowler threatened to marr the game. CH-C narrowly in after a direct hit then played and missed outside the off stump. Both Keeper and bowler thought they had an edge but Ron Fry drew on all his 50 years of umpiring experience to make the correct decision and give the batsman not out - this was not good enough for the bowler who insisted on a tirade of abuse. The pie which was smacked for four next ball brought another ugly outburst. However the worst was to come when the very next over the umpire at the other end gave CH-C out LBW in sympathy to the bowlers who lacked inspiration all day. It meant little as Dujon was brought to the wicket and smacked 40 until his blood sugar levels dropped so low as to introduce a false shot and angry outburst on his return to the hut. A couple of quick wickets and a few lusty blows from Goldsmith and Pickles at the end saw KMCC set the challenging total of 192-8 off 35 overs at tea.
Once again tea brought rain but unfortunately not the Duckworth Lewis system for revising the target. Senior knock out rules reduced the target to the much easier 138 from 25 overs. Rod quickly rained on Ouseburns parade ripping the top order out in his first 4 overs ( 4-7 at that stage). A mini revival saw Ouseburn who fought hard with the bat right back in it and the target was only 49 from the last 7 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Brad then grabbed a sharp chance in the covers before Cat bowling for the first time in Kirkby colours took his first wickets. James Ripley took the match winner judging a difficult catch in the deep to perfection and the Ouseburn tail just couldn't find the big hits required. 106-9 at the close and KMCC march into the second round
