Uffindall confounds spirited KMCC
In yet another thrilling first division encounter KMCC just fell short of recording a remarkable victory thanks to Newby Halls prolific opener Oliver Uffindall. Winning the toss, VC Armer elected to bat on a hot and sunny midsummers day. Nattress, 45 and Harford-Cross, 40 then set about building a solid base to the innings putting on 86 in good time before Nattress was finally dismissed by part time spinner, Uffindall. When Fielder fell LBW only a few overs later the gloss was taken from the flying start and then when both Fraser and H-C were run out in the same over to the same fielder (you've guessed it - Uffindall) a score in excess of 200 suddenly appeared unlikely. However, Armer,21, ensured a target was set with some spirited batting down the order and everyone sprinted into tea to watch England v Portugal with the score on 182-8.
The Kirkby bowlers and fielders set about Newby like terriers with a bone - never giving any batsman, Uffindall apart, the chance to settle and wickets fell periodically to Fraser, Kirk, Pickles and Fielder. Uffindall looked on with equanimity from the other end as Newby reached 36-4, and 122-7. At this point, a close LBW call was rejected and the eight wicket partnership took Newby into shouting distance of the target. KMCC huffed and puffed but couldn't dislodge either batsman and Uffindall eased Newby home with 5 balls and 2 wickets remaining much to the chagrin of the Kirkby side who had once again played some great cricket, given it everything and left with only a point for their troubles.
