The bowlers inspired, the batsmen graft, KMCC wins again
In a dour first innings enlightened by Tufnell's first five wicket haul in 2 years Newby were dismissed for a paltry 105. As well as Tufnell, 5-47 Fettes, 3-15 and Goldsmith 2-20 enabled that the Newby batting were never allowed to dominate on a sporting wicket.
The top order had looked on in trepidation as Tufnell got the ball to shoot and pop almost at will and given the performance against Blubberhouses earlier on in the season 105 could well have been more than enough. However KMCC had learnt from previous mistakes and despite an incredibly slow run rate against some miserly bowling and the loss of 2 early wickets Captain shedley, 29 (off 32 overs) and Iain Fraser slowly but surely edged the score closer to the victory target. A late flurry of wickets kept everyone guessing but Goldsmith and particularly Fraser,46no, saw KMCC home with 2 overs and 5 wickets to spare. Can KMCC finish in the top half of the table this yearf? surely not!!
