KMCC vs Newby Hall C.C.

Newby Hall cruise home

KMCC lost the toss, were inserted on what was a remarkably dry and true wicket, and appeared to be travelling serenely to a huge total at the half way mark of the innings (105-2 from 22 overs) particularly given the strength in depth of the batting to come. However, at KM things are never that simple and a flurry of wickets left the away side reeling at 148-8. Luckily captain Shed and Steve Johnson(37*) were on hand to steer the total to 174-8 at the close with a gutsy 9th wicket partnership.

Although not a huge total, Newby then cruised home by 8 wickets with 2 debatable LBW decisions all Kirkby could take home with them. In Kirkby's favour the team kept grafting to the end and never made it easy for the opposition. In fact the fielding was a revelation compared to the debacle against Ouseburn in the abandoned match the previous saturday and all the bowlers stuck to their task until the final curtain descended. KMCC must now dust themselves down and prepare for the Derby tussle back at the rain soaked KMCG next week.
