KMCC vs North Stainley C.C.

KMCC edge their way to victory

With September comes the first signs of Autum, a nip in the air, trees shedding their reddened leaves, the first 1.30 start to the season and Dujon arriving half an hour late. The rest of KMCC arrived at the NSCG knowing that victory would bring them within touching distance of the first division, whilst Stainley, despite an epic end of season revival, were confident that defeat would send them down to the third division. Since KMCC were Lacking their toss expert and inspirational captain, Brad, for the third time this season Iain "Six Points" Fraser aimed to fill his shoes and for the third time failed to win the toss. Buoyed by massive scores in recent weeks Stainley had no hesitation in electing to bat. Duncan Fraser then pinned both in-form Stainley openers LBW in only his second over and visibly deflated the entire Stainley line up. A mini revival was inspired by Frank Wilkinsons now well documented no nonsense approach to batting as he smashed 33 in no time but as against Pannal the previous week the introduction of Mike Armer, 4-23, resulted in the demolition of the middle order and by the time Fielder,3-14, had erradicated the tail the Stainley total had reached 98 all out from 24 overs.

Despite an urgent warning from the Pannal tea ladies that an early tea may be required the sausage rolls were not yet adequately warmed and the tea service had not been polished so for the second week running the KMCC openers strode out without the aid of the nations favourite beverage. Whilst Nattress, 56no, looked in fine form stroking the ball around with the calm assurance of Bill Lawry his counterpart Harford-Cross, 36no, made full use of all the edges of his bat. However, both approaches proved effective and the score raced along to the victory target in only 13 overs. For KMCC a season of toil awaits in Division One whilst Stainley can look forward to a promotion drive in the Third.
