KMCC vs Burton Leonard C.C.

KMCC defeat Stainley in gathering gloom

The KMCG is beginning to take on its autumnal soggy appearance now that August is drawing to a close however following the trend for the season Shedley won the toss and elected to bat. This proved to be a good decision as KMCC steadily began to accumulate runs - although free-scoring was never easy. After the loss of Rod and Mark, Iain and Charles took the score over 100 and although wickets then started to fall Iain, 36, Charles, 95 and Steve, 22 ensured that given the conditions a highly competitive 195-7 was recorded by tea.

The Stainley batsmen, keen to get to the Scarborough festival to take part in the celebrations following Yorkshires County Championship success started briskly and despite the loss of their renowned Aussie early on to Tufnell appeared to be heading steadily to victory. However all the Kirkby bowlers strove hard including new signing Andy Johnson and once the top order was removed the soft underbelly of the Stainley line up was exposed. In a feeding frenzy Hinchliffe, Johnson and Fettes gorged themselves with their wickets and the Stainley challenge was no more - all out for 169
