Killinghall tenth wicket pair break Kirkby hearts
On a bright sunny day, KMCC arrived at the home of the champions hoping to cause an upset that would shake the nidderdale league to its foundations. Winning the toss VC Armer elected to bat in the absence of Brad on study leave. The innings was teatering at 35-3 under pressure from top class bowling however Fraser, I has never been dismissed at Killinghall and was in no mood to break his duck. Ably abetted by first Kiffer, 26 and subsequently by some classical Fraser, D flat batting, 33 in which he ruffled both the Aussie and Milburns feathers by worrying the cows in the nearby field, Iain accumulated 51no and Shedley saw off the final three deliveries of the innings to ensure a point at tea, 147-8.
Two early wickets gave hope despite a swashbuckling innings of 33 by Milburn, when he was dismissed by an Armer inswinger the large home crowd began to feel a little restless. However, at 104-3 Killinghall were cruising when Fielder decided to use his golden arm to good effect dismissing three batsmen in an over the first of which was a classic diving catch by Goldsmith reminiscent of a salmon leaping up a Scottish burn on its way to the Trossachs to spawn. The atmosphere became increasingly intense and Dujon's second stumping of the day followed by two more wickets took KMCC into sight of an unexpected and historic victory with Killinghall teeting on 141-9. Showing all the nerve and confidence that winning trophies brings, Overend then ushered Killinghall home much to the chagrin of the Kirkby players who surely deserved more than the single point a one wicket defeat earned.
