KMCC vs Goldsborough C.C.

KMCC out of the blocks with victory on day one

The new cricketing summer brought golden sunshine, a new management team and an ebulliant new skipper in Duncan as the KMCC flying circus arrived at the GCG embued with the success of the prior campaign and a spring in their step. In his first act as skipper, Duncan lost the toss and KMCC were inserted by the Goldsborough skipper history breeding confidence in his teams ability to knock off any score posted by the KMCC all stars. The KMCC innnings started solidly as Kiffer benefiting from nets immediately hit his straps but in a game of 9 LBW's fell when well set on 20. Out strode the man brought in to fill KMCC legend, Kenny Fielder's shoes, Glen Loraine (KMCC & Australia) but sadly his aggressive innings was a flash in the pan although in his two games so far he has shown enough for observers to believe that he will score heavily this summer for the cavaliers. There then followed the key partnership in the KMCC innings as Harford-Cross, 47 and Fraser, 52 set the base from which an assault on the bowling could occur and despite a flurry of wickets Brad, a new man now that he is released from the burden of captaincy, struck a quick 20 and Duncan, drinking deep from the poisoned chalice, smashed 30no. Able assistance was provided by Tuffers, scoring more runs in his 16 than in the entire previous season. 209-8 at tea seemed a useful, though not exceptional score given the placid batting conditions.

The KMCC bowlers ably backed up by fielders, still keen at the start of the season, steadily chipped away at the Goldsborough top order, missing previous nemesis David Cummings, and as the wickets fell hope became expectation in KMCC hearts. Goldsborough continued to challenge even with seven wickets down but the LBWs kept coming as all the bowlers shared the wickets. The return of Peter Kirk and Mike wrapped up the Goldsborough innings for 163 and KMCC had recorded six points placing them top of the Nidderdale league (if only for one week) mirrored by the second teams failing to register a point despite the best efforts of the young team who now sit looking up on the entire league.
