KMCC shine on derby day
KMCC romped to victory against their local rivals despite lacking both leading run scorers through holidays and injury. The day started with the now traditional loss of the toss and Galphay asking kirkby to bat - the next 20 overs provided about as much entertainment as watching paint dry as KMCC trickled to 39-0 however the lack of early wickets enabled firstly Harford-Cross(42) and Fraser,D. to take the score to around the 120 mark with 5 overs remaining. It was then that Atkinson strode purposefully to the wicket and the fireworks really started. The Galphay attack was left licking its wounds after Fraser hit 5 sixes to finish on 57 not out and Atkinson,B. two in the final over as 63 runs were plundered from the final 5 overs.
181-4 was a reasonable but certainly not unnattainable total (see Goldsborough) however a regular trickle of wickets and a marathon 22 over spell from Duncan Fraser restricted Galphay to 125-5 and only a single point. A much needed win helped keep kirkby at arms length from the dreaded drop zone.
