KMCC nailed in derby thriller
What should have been a fine swansong to the season with the added bonus of sending local rivals, Galphay back to where they belong failed to live up to the billing. A stop start performance, after being inserted on a good batting track (with the exception of the odd turnip) led to KMCC reaching what looked like a reasonable basis for a score at 140-4 with 5 overs remaining, however a rain break of one over took the wind out of the sails of the innings which almost finished with KMCC losing a point but for the simplest of dropped catches off the last ball of the innings, KMCC 154-9.
A couple of early wickets with the new ball saw Galphay reeling at 22-2 however the initial breakthrough was not capitalised upon and the Galphay score continued to creep up at well above the required scoring rate and at 120-3 it looked like a walk in the park, once again however the introduction of Haigh into the attack brought mayhem and fear among the batsman and suddenly the tide of the match turned, wickets falling steadily although the odd four allowing the target to get evercloser, with 10 runs required and 7 wickets down Iain"Jonty Rhodes"Fraser ran out the Galphay number 9 with a direct hit and the game looked to be Kirkbys however 2 close LBW calls and 2 swipes later Galphay scuttled to 2nd Division survival much to the chagrin of the Kirkby players, who maybe just didn't have the same desire as GWCC who were desparate for a win.
