KMCC vs Galphay and Winksley CC

KMCC totter past Galphay

Another damp midsummers day saw flooding around the region and a soaked KMCG however a stiff breeze and rapid drainage enabled the game to be started on time and Galphay won the toss and elected to bat. A quickfire start against the Kirkby opening bowlers took the Galphay total to 45-0 from the first 8 overs with CHC standing in at keeper until a sozzled Dujon appeared after Englands victory over Denmark to take over the gauntlets. It was at that stage that the Galphay openers fell in quick succession and after that it became graft central as no further attempt was made to get any runs. 30 overs later and Galphay had added an additional 45 runs to those scored in the opening burst that had promised so much and only 5 wickets down. At the 42 over mark it appeared that with 4 wickets in hand Galphay would take the point that they had fought so hard for but it was at this stage that Elmer finally rose from his den. Duncan started the rot and removed the Galphay skipper from the penultimate ball of his spell. Hooksey then only required 3 balls to remove the final 3 Galphay batsman as a slip catch, a catch behind and the Galphay number 11 bowled round his legs saw the first KMCC hattrick of the season!!!(and the end of the Galphay innings on 106 all out- R Hooks 5-5 and another monumental spell after the dissapointment of Dacre).

Surely KMCC couldn't bat as badly as the previous week and with only 107 required a simple victory would be recorded, no, they could and after the opening partnership of 33 was broken wickets fell steadily but just not fast enough to record defeat as the KMCC innings limped to the victory target with only 3 wickets in hand - is it a sign of a good team if they can win when they're playing badly? In this case probably not.
