It was with great Trepidation that Captain BJ's Barmy Army strode out against a North Stainley side whose ranks were bolstered by the inclusion of their overseas player. The sun beat down on a track that had been prepared beyond all doubt for a batting extravaganza. Tony Coates the Stainley Bobby had been rolling it since day break and the Kirkby Bowlers looked for inspiration as the Aussie took his guard. Tuffnell took the Dingo by the Gonads for the first over, only conceding on boundary off the standard 8 ball evening league over. As the dust swirled in the light breeze the temperature was climbing, making conditions near homelike for the man who made 160 not out last week. BJ the Kirkby Evening league Captain decided to take it like a man and took the second over and was slapped for 8 runs. Shadows of doubt crept into the Kirkby Camp. Tuffnell showed true grit and rose from the ashes of despair to ply his trade and dismiss the offending batman in his second over. The Antipodean was gutted, union flags rippled in the minds of the Kirkby players, Land of hope and glory whispered in their ears and the immortal tune of Skippy the bush Kangaroo was whistled as the spawn of transportation threw his bat across the changing room. But Kirkby still had a job to do! A cunning change of bowling by BJ saw the Home teams batting crumble and a score of 114 off 16 eight ball overs was set. BJ wanted this match, for Kirkby, for Yorkshire and basically because he doesnt like overseas inclusion on what should be a breeding ground for Englands future cricketers. It was obvious that the mighty KMCC mean't business GT and Dibley marched out and slapped the Stainley attack all over the ground. The partnership ended with GT cutting loose one too many toe enders and getting caught out. ENTER THE BIG CHEESE!! The Cheese done well, steering the score steadily with near perfect timing until winding up for the big one and losing his wicket. The job was nearly done as Dibley showed great self control and popped a couple of boundaries to finish off the victory. The absolute bonus ball of the match was when Plod(Quassi) dropped Dibley in the fourteenth over off his own son's bowling. The sniggers were heard all round the ground. Well thats all from the Evening League Next week check out Ripon Vs Kirkby at the KMCG its gonna be a ripper! (As Richie would say)
