Burton pummell Kirkby attack
This was a glorious, if windy, day to play cricket and on possibly the hardest truest strip in the league. Not the time either to be without your main wicket taker or for that matter lose the toss and field. The opening attack however kept it tight and eaked out a couple of early wickets leaving the innings in the balance at drinks - further wickets were required and they did not emerge in time as the Burton middle order began to make hay. The fielding became more and more lacklustre and although a flurry of quick wickets took the score to 185-5 with 10 overs to go and a possible get out the miserable performance in the field continued (surely an extra 30 runs being given away) as Burton eased themselves to 252-5 at tea
The KMCC batting never quite got into the game although 77 was put on for the first wicket including 56 from the rarely troubled Rod Pickles. Wickets then fell steadily as no other batsman passed thirty and at 150-9 with only 5 overs to go even a point seemed unattainable. Numbers ten Matthew Pickles(15*) and eleven Paul Bartram (24*) provided the one plus of the weekend ensuring a point and the avoidance of humiliation. Darley then hammered home the lesson in the Senior Knock Out on the Sunday smashing 242-7 from 40 overs and although the KMCC batting line up made a valiant stab at the total finishing 13 runs shy only improved fielding will enable the early season form to be reproduced.
