Weather chills promotion celebrations
On an extremely cold end of season afternoon, with nothing to play for but pride and averages Blubberhouses turned up for the final tie of the year with KMCC. Batting first the Blubberhouses innings started like a grizzly bear winding down for a winters hibernation as the score crept along at a snails pace. The Kirkby attack probed for weakness like Davy Crockett and eventually Fielder broke the deadlock grabbing a couple of wickets. An injured bear is at its most dangerous and finally Blubberhouses awoke from their slumbers in the form of Chris Lowe, 47no, with a magnificent six into the bowling green. The Kirkby bowlers hunting in a pack sought to tame the beast with Fraser taking 3-36, including two sharp stumpings from Dujon, which snuffed out the chances of a final assault. The killer blow was never inflicted but a score of 150-7 was the equivalent of a life spent in London zoo.
Chris Nattress,32, then got the Kirkby reply off to a flying start and although the pace slackened after his dismissal by the time Tim Hendry, 4-33, started hypnotising the Kirkby middle order with his slow left arm spin 40 from Harford-Cross and 32 from Iain Fraser had all but seen Kirkby home. The game ended with a bang when Duncan Fraser, frustrated by the slow run rate smashed his only ball for six.
It now remains to be seen whether Nattress will recover sufficiently from his alcoholic and aquatic misdemeanors of the promotion celebrations to inspire a successful season in the top division.
