KMCC crumble against Blubberhouses onslaught
After a wet week, the BCG was looking damp and dodgy at the start of the days play however bearing in mind the appalling form KMCC has displayed whilst chasing totals of lateupon winning the toss Bradley elected to bat. After 20 overs this appeared to have been a nightmarish decision as Kirkby struggled to 33-3 on a lively track with the ball swinging, seaming and popping left right and centre. Rodney had been dispatched LBW after hitting the ball onto his pads and Iain and Dujon had followed in quick succession. The Wookie returned to the side in ebullient mood however and after showing all the mortal attributes of a cat (being dropped 5 times and surviving a dubious caught behind appeal) he came into his most destructive form and smashed an unbeaten 132 in next to no time, Charles H-C,80, was a virtual onlooker in their record 201 partnership. 251-5 at tea and suddenly the decision to bat seemed inspired.
The game was turned on its head over the next 30 overs as the Blubberhouses openers amassed a huge 167 stand in reply and as the gloom descended the level of fielding plummeted and despite a mini revival when three quick wickets fell the Blubberhouses middle order eased themselves home with an over to spare for an unlikely victory - the KMCC players were left to weep into their pints as another 5 points slipped away.
