KMCC batting shines again
KMCC romped to victory over Blubberhouses who have been Kirkby's nemesis on the majority of occasions over the last few years. Shedley won the toss and elected to bat and after an early wicket the fireworks really started - initially Fettes, 36 and Pickles, 49 took the bowling to task but it wasn't long before Dujon (arriving late as a result of an unscheduled tour of the local area) started pinging the ball to all parts (well mainly cow corner actually) at the half way stage KMCC were in the healthy position of 150-5. A couple of wickets stemmed the flow but the KMCC batting is a deep as a limpid scottish loch and contributions right down the order including a first half century of the season from veteran international star, Fraser, ensured the intimidating total of 234-8 was posted at tea.
Initially, Blubberhouses looked like making a strong fist of the run chase, and a couple of early dropped catches saw the cat eyeing up the pigeons but Shedley brought the big cheese into the attack with immediate effect, clean bowling the big hitting opener, Dickinson, despite protestations to the contrary. Tight bowling and now eager fielding removed all remaining jitters as the Blubberhouses line up was steadily chipped away at and all the bowlers eventually found good rhythm (Fettes, 3-38, Blackburn, 3-41 being the main wicket takers). The Blubberhouses innings was wrapped up on 130 amid great rejoicing and another 6 points - is a championship charge on the cards? maybe not!
