KMCC vs Bishop Monkton C.C.

KMCC make amends for early season shambles

It took one and a half hours for this match to get started as the rain hammered down at the KMCG, but once underway it was worth waiting for and the capacity crowd were not dissapointed. The now traditional opposition cheer as they win the toss was heard on the other side of the dales and home supporters must have feared for the KMCC batsmen having to set some kind of target on a rain soaked strip. They hadn't banked on the return to the runs of "The big cheese" who made a mockery of the earlier fears and smashed his way to 77. Atkinson again weighed in during the last few overs finishing up on 41 not out as KMCC cruised to a fearsome 166-4 off their allotted 32 overs

Bishop Monkton, to be honest, were never in the hunt and lost wickets steadily as Goldsmith ripped through their frail batting line up and when Atkinson took his second slip catch of the day, final figures of 7-34 for Goldie were the jewel in the crown of his season. Bishop Monkton had been sent packing for a meagre 84.

It should be noted at this point that the celebrations started in earnest - surely one more victory will be enough to ensure survival for another year and recent performances suggest higher placings are certainly possible. Buoyed up by the return to Kirkby of Dibley after an operation on a fractured skull, the drinking went long into the night. The icing on the cake however was the nocturnal skinny dipping competition in which the bulk of the team took part and all to celebrate Duncan and Lisa's wedding anniversary -what more could you ask for?
