KMCC vs Burton Leonard C.C.

Goldie Power!

On a damp overcast afternoon, Captain Shedley lost the toss and KMCC were inserted - 2 overs already having been lost to rain. This proved to be a vital toss since the weather immediately cleared up and the KMCC batsmen proceeded to make hay on a belting wicket. A solid opening partnership of 82 (Shedley, 22, H-C, 62) provided the launch pad for a large total and the middle order did not dissapoint - Fettes 33 followed by some brutal hitting from Duncan, 49 and Goldie, 20no saw KMCC sitting pretty at 223-5 at tea.

The Burton batsmen came out bristling with intent and the first ball was driven for six - however after losing an early wicket the match settled down and the Burton innings was cruising along at 4 an over. Then KMCC took control as both Raistrick and Goldsmith made inroads into the Burton middle order and at 74-5 it appeared that their stranglehold was absolute. It was then that the weather intervened once again - this time in favour of the batting side. With only an hour remaining and 19 overs to be bowled the ball was soaked and not moving as before. There followed an assault on the bowling as KMCC haemorraged runs freely. The total rattled on to 203-6 with 4 overs remaining BLCC required only 20 runs - but the wickets had started to fall again and with 12 runs required off the last 12 balls and 3 wickets in hand Goldie intervened - this time decisively removing danger man Drummond and coming up with a double wicket maiden to finish with six. In the final over The big cheese removed the last man as KMCC took all six points in their second thrilling encounter with Burton of the season.
