KMCC toil in the sun
When Shedley lost the toss for the 14th time out of 15 this season on the hottest day of the summer so far, facing opponents who had amassed 320 the week before his heart must have sank at the thought of chasing leather for 45 overs however the opposition did the decent thing and inserted KMCC much to everyones amazement and relief. Batting for the Kirkby heroes however proved not the easiest of tasks as everyone struggled to find form only a gritty 36 from Iain Fraser early on and a fluent 36* from Atkinson in the dying overs ensured a point. KMCC ending up on a measly 129-7
Alne then proceded to play all their shots as if they were all desparate to get home as quickly as possible - when this was coupled with hostile bowling from the powerhouse Goldsmith it led to the removal of both openers cheaply and when the one-handed Haigh was brought into the attack Alne fell furthur into the mire as interspersed between the half-trackers and head-high beamers 4 furthur wicket taking balls were conjured up. It was only the meagre total that enabled Alne to limp past the finishing post with 4 wickets in hand on a day when only the sunscreen manufacturers could be really satisfied.
The remaining fixtures are going to prove critical to survival in this division as all the bottom clubs are being played in quick succession and no-one would want to travel to Goldsborough on the last day of the season requiring a victory to protect our 2nd Division status and a repeat of last years heroics.
