KMCC vs Alne C.C.

KMCC triumph in thrilling run feast

The bank holiday weekend saw Armers flying circus arrive at the Alne CG. Upon winning the toss the Alne skipper fancying an early finish inserted KMCC without a moments hesitation. However, Nattress,34, and Harford-Cross,65, keen to improve on what will become known in the future as the Pannal debacle, set about providing a foundation for the Kirkby innings, putting on 77 for the first wicket, whilst seeing off the new ball. Fielder then strode to the wicket bristling with intent and started caressing the ball to all parts and KMCC were set fair for a big total. Although Fielder finally fell caught on the boundary, 3 yards/runs short of a magnificent hundred, the skipper Armer set about smashing tiles ably assisted by a rejuvenated Duncan, 26no, who smote 16 from the final three balls of the innings. Alne were set the daunting target of 264 to win.

Alne, not to be outdone and intent on putting the erstwile Division 2 pipsqueaks in their place elevated the clean hitting Beaumont up the order and since the sun was shining he decided to make hay smashing a quickfire 53. J Shedley eventually put paid to his gunslinging by holding on to a steepling skier from Duncan, 3-47 which restored some order to the proceedings. Under the guidance of birthday boy, Bruce Jackson, aided by a hard true batting surface Alne were easily up with the required rate until Skipper Armer and batting hero Fielder applied the pressure with the ball in the final third of the innings. The boundary's were patrolled feverishly by the KMCC fielders with the scent of victory in their nostrils and the match boiled down to the last over to be bowled by the enigmatic Simon "Tufnell" Blackburn with 18 runs required. A six over the towering figure of Kiffer "Bashful" Nattress at square leg from ball one put the cat among the pigeons. But Tufnell cunningly disguising his zooter, as exactly the same delivery as the ball before, prevented any scoring from ball two and when Jackson, finishing on 106no, lost the strike for only a single on ball three the initiative was lost and KMCC closed out a thrilling 8 run victory just as the sun fell below the horizon.
